Wine of Rhone Valley
Côtes of Rhône valley is made from grapes planted near the historic city of Avignon by a well known Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer.
Oraison means “prayer” in French connecting this delicious wine to the Papal history of this ancient city and wine growing region.
Further connecting this wine to its bigger brother, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is the winemaking and the grapes which are selected. While 13 grape varieties are planted in this region, it is Grenache that is king and is the dominant grape used in the production of Oraison Côtes du Rhône, accounting for 80% of the blend. The Grenache is augmented by 10% each of Syrah and Mouvèdre—very common in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but uncommon in Côtes du Rhône at this price. The resulting wine is full of spicy red fruit aromas, with cigar box and licorice tones as well. In the mouth it is rich and complex, while retaining its juicy fruit flavors.
The winery : “Located on either side of the Rhône River between Vienne, Valence and Avignon, the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation derives its personality from an astounding diversity of soil types, climates and grape varieties. For this cuvée, I have chosen vineyards located in two different areas
